Chelsea Gallery Tour
In what unfolded as an afternoon of discovery and adventure, the Renewal Care Foundation sponsored a tour of Chelsea art galleries the afternoon of Saturday, May 16th. Our group was lead by Lynne Mayocole – a sculptor, lecturer, and long-time member of Soho’s avant-garde community. The itinerary included the James Cohan, Mitchell-Innes & Nash, and Max Greis galleries, among others. It was a closely-knit selection of venues on 26th and 27th Streets, making the tour manageable for individuals with physical limitations.
Our goal was to provide an opportunity for individuals with memory loss and their care partners to enjoy art together in a welcoming, accessible environment. “The larger museums can be overwhelming for us, especially with the crowds,” commented Alice, whose husband has cognitive impairment. “Today was perfectly paced – and a very intimate experience with some beautiful works of art.”
“Lynne is fabulous!” raved Tom, another attendee (we couldn’t agree more). “I normally find modern art very intimidating, but with the context Lynne gave us, the works were so approachable.”
Our sincere thanks to Lynne for making this special event possible!
