Monick Monell is a native of Brooklyn, New York – but she gained her first caregiving experience while she was living in Virginia. Monick worked in a Nursing Home for five years. Upon her return to NYC, Monick continued her care “assistant” work – Monick uses this term because she feels it better empowers clients. Monick further affirms her clients by incorporating their individual preferences into her daily routine. Monick has learned to ask guiding questions, which help clients share aspects of their culture – such as their favorite foods, places they have lived, and other objects that hold meaning for them. Monick also tries to understand the apprehension that clients feel as they allow new people into their homes. Monick feels that this work has opened her mind to all aspects of life. She holds an Associates’ Degree in Medical Office Administration.
